Goat Island Donation:

May 2015

We are very pleased and excited to announce that the agreement for the donation of Goat Island to the province of Nova Scotia has been finalized. Goat Island, a beautiful 4+ acre island on the entrance to Mahone Bay Harbour will now be protected by a Stewardship Agreement between MICA and the NS Department of Natural Resources. The island is in its natural state and provides an ideal spot for an afternoon picnic.

MICA would like to gratefully and sincerely acknowledge and thank John McLennan and family for this very generous donation.

Since our beginnings in 2002, we have raised more than $1,100,000 from our generous supporters. Together with our major funding partners, the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, the Municipality of the District of Chester and the Province of Nova Scotia, we have established a very significant legacy in Mahone Bay. Our work has brought Andrews Island, Backmans Island, Covey Island, the northern part of Masons Island, Sacrifice Island, Shag Island (Indian on the chart), the central part of Masons, and Bella Island and most recently Squid Island back into public ownership. In addition, we are managing four islands generously donated by the Long Island Preservation Society: Long, Centre, Dry, and Snipe Islands.

Our financial resources are now depleted and any donations would be especially welcome at this time so that we will be better positioned to pursue future acquisition opportunities.

Thank you again for your continuing support.

Sincerely,
MAHONE ISLANDS CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION
Directors
